WHAT IS THE JOPLIN METRO CORPORATE CHALLENGE?
The Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge (JMCC) is an Olympic-type event that allows Joplin Metro corporations to interact with each other through various sporting events. This 2023 season is the inaugural year for our local corporate games, and we look forward to continued growth in the years to come. The Joplin Metro Corporate Challenge will mimic that of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge, which grew from 18 companies and 1,500 individual participants in 1980 to 220 companies and over 33,000 individual participants. The Kansas City games have more than twice as many competitors as the Olympics!
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE JOPLIN METRO CORPORATE CHALLENGE?
Employee morale – JMCC allows employees to build relationships and teamwork outside of the workplace and in parts of an organization where it may not otherwise be done. Participants are extremely proud of their team and their employer!
Diverse opportunities - We offer something for everyone! Recreational activities such as cornhole and a scavenger hunt are represented, as well as competitive athletic events such as softball, volleyball, and running.
Networking – Many companies meet new colleagues and new customers through JMCC events!
Civic-minded employees – JMCC supports local charities. Participants tend to be very generous in fundraising, volunteering, carpooling, and many other things that strengthen our community!
Healthy lifestyles – We’ve seen it work in other cities! Many employees will begin to train year-round for JMCC. Some have stopped smoking. Some have become more fit. In most cases, employees are happier and healthier, improving both their physical and mental health. Not only does this benefit them, but your employee benefit costs are aided by having a healthier workforce.
WHEN IS THE JOPLIN METRO CORPORATE CHALLENGE?
JMCC allows companies to compete in approximately ten sports throughout our season, generating points for their team along the way. The events are held during the months of May - July, but communication and awareness of the event throughout the Joplin Metro community go on year-round.
WHO BENEFITS FROM THE JOPLIN METRO CORPORATE CHALLENGE?
Aside from the personal benefits to everyone who is involved in the Games, Joplin Metro-based charitable organizations will benefit financially from the JMCC. All of the proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri and SET Ranch & Prosperity Club.
WHO GOVERNS THE JOPLIN METRO CORPORATE CHALLENGE?
Employees from companies in the Joplin Metro make up the volunteer Steering Committee that governs the Games. These Members are not permitted to participate as athletes in the Corporate Challenge while serving on the Committee but have the knowledge to provide valuable input from the companies’ perspective, making the Games the best they can be.
